Paraffin Emulsion

Product Overview

Paraffin Emulsion

In the production of Paraffin Emulsion, an emulsifier is typically mixed with molten or warmed paraffin wax. This mixture combines with water to create a stable and uniform emulsion of the desired concentration. Once formed, the resulting pasty or solid paraffin emulsion disperses easily when mixed with water.

One practical application of Wax Emulsion lies in the woodworking industry, where it serves to protect various wood boards such as Particle Board, MDF, and OSB from moisture. Moreover, Wax Emulsion provides an Anti-Dust effect, which proves invaluable during activities like sawing or grinding boards. Implementing wax emulsion in woodworking processes not only shields the wood surface but also imparts a smoother and softer texture to the board. This effect significantly prolongs the lifespan of the grinding belt, more than doubling its operational duration.

Advantages of Wax Emulsion

  1. Enhanced Penetration and Hydrophilization: Wax Emulsion offers advantages over melted paraffin due to its small particle size, typically ranging from 1 to 5 microns. This small size facilitates better penetration of paraffin wax into wood fibres, leading to more efficient hydrophilization.
  2. Compatibility with Resins: Wax Emulsions exhibit excellent compatibility with melamine- and carbamide-based resins commonly used in woodworking. This compatibility ensures uniform mixing and distribution within the wood composite, enhancing overall performance.
  3. Water-Repelling Properties: During the hot pressing of wood plates, Wax Emulsion acts as a highly effective water-repelling agent. This property helps prevent moisture ingress and contributes to the durability of the final product.
  4. Hydrophobicity Enhancement: Upon decomposition, Wax Emulsion releases melted paraffin wax, which imparts hydrophobic properties to the wood plates. This hydrophobicity serves as an additional barrier against water damage, prolonging the lifespan of the wood composite.
  5. Improved Waterproofing: Special emulsifiers used in Wax Emulsion formulations facilitate the decomposition of the emulsion before the hardening of the bending agent. This process enhances the waterproof properties of the wood plates, ensuring long-lasting protection against moisture.
  6. Ease of Application and Storage: The liquid form of Wax Emulsion allows for easy application, simplifying the manufacturing process. Additionally, storage costs are minimized as Wax Emulsion can be stored at temperatures ranging from 5°C to 30°C, unlike melted paraffin wax, which requires storage temperatures exceeding 60°C.
  7. Cost-Efficiency in Transportation: Utilizing Wax Emulsion eliminates the need for heating piping during transportation, as there is no risk of freezing inside the pipes. This results in significant cost savings and streamlines logistic operations.
  8. Reduction in Resin Usage: By incorporating Wax Emulsion into wood composite formulations, manufacturers can achieve a notable reduction of 10-20% in resin usage without compromising the physic-chemical properties of the plates. This reduction translates to cost savings without sacrificing product quality.
