Description
Description:
Oxidized Bitumen 90/15 or Bitumen R90/15 is a semi-solid grade oxidized type of Bitumen Generally. It is known as R90/15 grade as well.
This grade of Bitumen is made by Pure Bitumen aeration, which leads to Bitumen oxidization with hot air. In this procedure, hydrogen atoms get a reaction with oxygen atoms, and the result is hydrocarbons with lower penetration and higher softening point than Pure Bitumen. Penetration Bitumen 60/70 is a raw material for the production of Blown Bitumen 90/15 and many other grades by passing very hot air through the Bitumen 60/70, the oxidation operation begins.
While that process is running, all parameters like temperature, pressure, oil content, etc., must be monitor and control. Without accurate monitoring and controlling parameters, desired goals will not achieve. Because of the special rubbery properties of this grade, it can be used in numerous industries.
Technical Properties:
Blown Bitumen R90/15 has two specific numbers. One of them is softening point, and the other number is the needle Penetration value which is equal to 90℃ and 15 desi-millimeter, respectively. These numbers were achieved by ASTM international test Method. The softening point test method is ASTM-D36 (Ring and Ball), and for Penetration degree, it is ASTM D5. For more information, please refer to the Test Datasheet.
Applications:
Blown Bitumen 90/15 or R90/15 produced by PUB-LTD Co. has rubber property more than previous grades; because of its particular property in oxidization procedure. Due to these abilities, it can be used in numerous industrial applications. It is used in the production of especial paints, civil works, construction, road construction, roofing, facing, flooring, as an anti-slip layer component, undercarriage sealant in the cars and automobile industry, in the pilling industry, electrical operations, cable coating, oil and gas pipelines coating, crack sealing, road repair operations, pulp papers, bituminous products, textile, joint filling compound, sound-reducing agent, dust proofing, waterproofing, roofing felts, lacquers, varnishes, pavements, fuel combination, and paving.
Furthermore, it’s used as raw material for adhesive, insulation, isolation bitumen membrane sheet, chemical, especial bitumen-based paints and colors to protect metal structures from corrosion, hydraulic applications and operations, Portland cement pavements, as a base for synthetic turf, producing rubber and plastic production.
Handling/storage
Heating Bitumen in most final uses is a critical stage. Generally, the most important thing in this procedure is heat control. Temperature and heat control can affect various aspects of the product, including its quality. The safe and recommended maximum temperature is 230℃.
All Oxidized Bitumen is not hazardous at below 100℃ during shipping operations. Heating and heat transfer should be control. Without good heat transfer may cause overheating and release low flash vapors, which these unwanted side products have a higher fire risk.
Also, melted bitumen should not be left in the boiler to get cold. Because it can cause overheating and needs more positional energy. Furthermore, placement and installing any temperature and pressure monitoring and control devices are very important. Because if their placement is not true, thermometers can’t display the real temperature that it can leads to poor monitoring and thermal conductivity.
Health/ Safety:
Everyone who works in Oxidized Bitumen plants should be wear gloves, masks (especial protective masks), and safety glasses. For more information, please refer to MSDS.
