Description
Description:
Oxidized Bitumen 85/40 (Blown Bitumen R85/40) is a semi-solid grade of Blown Bitumen category produced by pure Penetration Bitumen 60/70. The Oxidized word in Oxidized Bitumen refers to how bitumen is transformed from its normal and soft state to an aerated state. One of the most important usages of this product is in the construction industry because of its special technical properties.
Technical Properties:
Oxidized Bitumen R85/40 has a softening point between 80 and 90℃ and has a degree of penetration equal to 40 desi-millimeter. An international test method named archives these results, and all tests results are ASTM Method. For instance, its softening property measure by the ring and ball form, which is equal to ASTM D36.
Applications:
Oxidized Bitumen 85/40 (Blown Bitumen 85/40 or R85/40) is used in various industries for different purposes. Some of these industries are chemical, construction, paint manufacturing, asphalt mixture, flooring, roofing, facing, photographic paper, pulp paper, civil works, hydraulic operations, coating, crack sealing, road construction, asphalt-based pavements, paving, different bituminous products, especial bitumen-based paints that they used to protect pipes and facilities from corrosion, insulating, as a sound reducer or sound silencer component, waterproofing, dust proofing, etc. Also, its combination with fuel is very common.
Handling/Storage:
Heating Bitumen in most final uses is a critical stage. Generally, the most important thing in this procedure is heat control. Temperature and heat control can affect various aspects of the product, including its quality. The safe and recommended maximum temperature is 230℃.
All Oxidized Bitumen is not hazardous at below 100℃ during shipping operations. Blown Bitumen 85/40 for flow and discharge from boiler needs to potential and heat. Heating and heat transfer should be control and perfect. Without good heat transfer may cause overheating and release low flash vapors, which these unwanted side products have a higher fire risk.
Moreover, melted bitumen should not be left in the boiler to get cold. Because it can cause overheating and needs more positional energy. Furthermore, placement and installing any temperature and pressure monitoring and control devices are very important. Because if their placement is not true, thermometers can’t display the real temperature that it can leads to poor monitoring and thermal conductivity.
Health/Safety:
All employees who work in the Oxidized Bitumen plant should be wear gloves, safety glasses, masks, and any other personal protective equipment. For more information, you can see the MSDS section of the PUB-LTD website.
