Description
Description:
Oxidized Bitumen 150/5 (or Blown Bitumen 150/5) is also known as R150/5, has a high softening point (equal to 150) and very low needle penetration (equal to 5 desi-millimeter). According to this information, Blown Bitumen 150/5 is one of the very hard grades of Oxidized category produced with the combination of very hot air and pure Penetration Bitumen 60/70 as feed for a reactor. R150/5 was achieved by passing very hot air through pure bitumen under fully controlled temperature and pressure conditions. Its datasheet is based on ASTM standards; it is an international test method. According to the mentioned standard, softening point and Penetration degree are measured by ASTM D36 and ASTM D5, respectively.
Technical Properties:
Oxidized Bitumen 150/5 (or Blown Bitumen 150/5) is classified by two numbers which are softening point and needle penetration, respectively. The softening point of this grade is equal to 150 (by ASTM D36)and its penetration degree is equal to 5 desi-millimeter (by ASTM D5). For more information, please refer to Test Data Sheet (TDS) section.
Applications:
Blown Bitumen 150/5 or R150/5 has rubber property more than previous grades; because of its especial property in oxidization procedure. Due to these abilities, it can be used in numerous industrial applications. It is used in the production of especial paints, civil works, construction, road construction, roofing, facing, flooring, as an anti-slip layer component, undercarriage sealant in the cars and automobile industry, in the pilling industry, electrical operations, cable coating, oil and gas pipelines coating, crack sealing, road repair operations, pulp papers, bituminous products, textile, joint filling compound, sound-reducing agent, dust proofing, waterproofing, lacquers, varnishes, pavements, fuel combination, and paving.
Also, it’s used as raw material for adhesive, insulation, isolation bitumen membrane sheet, chemical, especial bitumen-based paints and colors to protect metal structures from corrosion, hydraulic applications and operations, Portland cement pavements, as a base for synthetic turf, producing rubber and plastic production.
Handling/storage:
Heating Bitumen in most final uses is a critical stage. Generally, the most important thing in this procedure is heat control. Temperature and heat control can affect various aspects of the product, including its quality. The safe and recommended maximum temperature is 230℃.
All Oxidized Bitumen is not hazardous at below 100℃ during shipping operations. Heating and heat transfer should be control. Without good heat transfer may cause overheating and release low flash vapors, which these unwanted side products have a higher fire risk.
Also, melted bitumen should not be left in the boiler to get cold. Because it can cause overheating and needs more positional energy. Furthermore, placement and installing any temperature and pressure monitoring and control devices are very important. Because if their placement is not true, thermometers can’t display the real temperature that it can leads to poor monitoring and thermal conductivity.
Health/ Safety:
Everyone who works in Oxidized Bitumen plants should be wear gloves, masks (especial protective masks), and safety glasses. For more information, please refer to MSDS.
