Oxidized Bitumen 85/30

General Description

Oxidized Bitumen 85/30 (Blown Bitumen 85/30) is produced by a continuous or staggered process. This process is done by air blowing into pure penetration bitumen 60/70. Heated penetration bitumen is always under control to monitor all conditions, especially the oil content, throughout the oxidation procedure. As mentioned before, the common grade and primal material to produce oxidized bitumen is Penetration Bitumen 60/70, which is used more than the other conventional bitumen grades. The amount of heat and the duration of exposure to heat determine the oxidized bitumen grade.

Technical Properties : Oxidized Bitumen 85/30

Blown Bitumen R85/30 is in semi-solid and midrange of this class which has a softening point between 80 to 90 according to ASTM D36 and its needle penetration degree is equal to 30 desi-millimeter according to ASTM D5. All tests are performed according to the test methods described in the standards of ASTM International.

Applications : Oxidized Bitumen 85/30

Oxidized Bitumen R85/30 (Blown Bitumen 85/30) has numerous usages in various industries like the production of paint, photographic paper and bituminous products. It is also used in road paving, as a fuel component, in chemical applications, insulating and bitumen-based paints which are used for coating and preserving pipes and some fixtures against corrosion. Oxidized Bitumen R85/30 is used in road construction and repair, crack sealing, civil engineering, as an additive in the Portland cement pavements, in automotive industry as an undercarriage sealant, roofing, flooring, coating, waterproofing, dust proofing, noise proofing, and as a membrane isolation sheet component, etc.

Handling/Storage : Oxidized Bitumen 85/30

Heating bitumen for most final uses is a critical stage. Generally, the most important aspect in this procedure is heat control. Temperature and heat control can affect various aspects of the product, including its quality. The safe and recommended maximum temperature is 230℃. All oxidized bitumen is risk-free at below 100℃ during shipping operations. Blown Bitumen 85/30 for flow and discharge from boiler requires potential energy and heat. Heating and heat transfer should be perfectly controlled. Inappropriate heat transfer may cause overheating and release low flash vapors, which can result in a higher fire risk. Moreover, melted bitumen should not be left in the boiler to get cold. Because it can cause overheating and needs more positional energy. Furthermore, placement and installing of any temperature and pressure monitoring and control devices are very important. Because if their placement is not right, thermometers can’t display the actual temperature, which can lead to poor monitoring and thermal conductivity.

Health/Safety : Oxidized Bitumen 85/30

Employees that work in the oxidized bitumen plants should be wearing safety equipment like gloves, safety glasses, special protective masks and other necessary personal protective equipment.
